In the years since Gentlemen of Sweden was first launched, a couple of different versions of hair waxes for men, and the occasional fussy wife and girlfriend, have been produced. It all started with the ‘green wax’ in the middle of the last decade, followed shortly after by the ‘black wax’.

When the green wax from Gentlemen of Sweden was created, it was intended for men with slightly shorter hair and it was made according to the principles of that time to be one of the best waxes for men and also the hairdressers who chose to work with it. It was stable and kept the hairstyle in place all day while it was excellent to restyle during the day (even day two I have heard from some customers).

As time went on, requests for a hair wax with additional strength and durability were made and that’s when the black wax, “creamy concrete” was created. It was filled with fibers to cast the hairstyle in place.

A lot has happened since 2015, not only in the company itself but also in our waxes. At the time of writing, we have two different waxes, a Firm Hold Paste and a Natural Matte Paste. Of the two, Firm Hold Paste is the most reminiscent of the Gentlemen of Sweden’s green wax from the past. What we have changed is that we have chosen to become completely vegan and this has meant that we have removed all animal ingredients in the old “green wax”, we have also added witch hazel and nettle extract to make your scalp feel good at the same time as we changed the scent profile slightly to go more towards pine / eucalyptus, cumin / mint and wood to create a masculine scent that is a little fresher and fresher scent.

We no longer have the black wax with fibers in it that we used to have, but it is not impossible that something similar will come in the future, but the future will tell.

Our second wax Natural Matte Paste is a light water-based paste that provides a more natural styling result, the wax provides a flexible medium texture that makes the hair more vibrant and natural and not so obviously styled. The active ingredients that help us are caolin clay, bentonite clay and castor oil. Of course, we have both nettle extract and witch hazel extract in our Natural Matte Paste too.

If you use our Natural Matte Paste in damp hair, your hair will get a more light and soft look, unlike if you use it in dry hair, where the result will be firmer with more control.
